Pilot — Chief Instructor

Owen Carter

Owen has logged over 9,000 hours across flight instruction, charter and air-ambulance flying. As chief instructor he sets the standard for every checkride at Altavera — and still flies with private pilot students every week, because he says beginners ask the best questions.

Ratings: commercial pilot, multi-engine and instrument instructor, former air-ambulance captain.

Founder

Miles Bennett

Miles founded Altavera in 2004 with two trainers and a borrowed hangar. Twenty years and 90 aircraft later, he still teaches the Saturday ground school and personally welcomes every new class of students on their first morning.

His philosophy never changed: small groups, honest debriefs, and instructors who know every student by name.

Pilot — Simulator Lead

Clara Dean

Clara runs our simulator centre and the instrument rating program. A former regional airline first officer, she specialises in turning nervous instrument students into pilots who genuinely enjoy flying in cloud.

Ask her about the famous "midnight approaches" — evening simulator sessions that graduates still talk about years later.
